What do I need?

Generally, if you just want to configure your computer for CoreNIC, you should use the Tier-2 server that has a Location that's closest to where you are. Tier-1 servers should only be used if you are creating your own Tier-2 server(s), and you only need Tier-0 servers if you are peering with CoreNIC. Please note that only Tier-2 servers are recursive and can be used for web browsing!

Adding a Tier-2

If you'd like to support the CoreNIC cause, and get some bragging rights, add your T2 DNS server(s) to our network! More information can be found on this here.

Meaning of words used

A Tier-0 server is the server at the root of the CoreNIC network. It acts as a “master” Tier-1 server, resolving the root zone and also controls the .core.nic glue zone.

A Tier-1 server is the next step down from the Tier-0 infrastructure. Each Tier-1 server(s) represents a specific TLD, for example, .core or .startup.

A Tier-2 server is the next step down again. Tier-2 servers are what ordinary people use to resolve OpenNIC TLDs. Tier-2 servers do not control any TLDs, instead they mirror the Tier-1 servers.
